Portrait photography is one of the most common forms of photography.
Who ever know how to operate a camera is able to shoot a portrait, However there are of course, differences in its quality.
Professional portrait photographers have certain characteristics that let them get the best out of their subjects.
A portrait photo does not only mean a person’s image. In a way, it shows character and emotion.
These five tips can give you a head start:

1).Rapport
Constructing rapport with your subject is the 1st thing that you should learn.
Interest in acknowledging your subject is a big asset.
If you get to recognize your subject and they know you, they’ll become more comfortable in front of the camera.
Once the shoot comes, you have better chances of getting the best natural expressions from the people you’re shooting.

2). Personality
Always make certain that your photos will show the personality of your subject.
You’ll only know this if you know the person. Make sure that their personality shows in their faces.
Personality normally comes out once the subject is not expecting a shot, so you have to be ready to capture the picture when the opportunity comes up.

3). Lighting
Nearly all photographers choose natural lighting.
However since you would like to emphasize the person’s face and character, you should always consider using artificial lighting.
Make sure that light is equally distributed, or that it satisfies the angle that you want to emphasize.
Lighting may have a great effect particularly if you or they want a serious picture.

4). Background
Nearly every portrait has light backgrounds to emphasize the subject.
You are able to use the environment as well to add more character to your subject.
In addition to be sure that the colors of your background and the dress of your subject complement one another.
Occasionally backgrounds become the flaw of a picture since the photographer took it for granted.

5). Plan
Make sure that you’re ready ahead the photo shoot starts.
Not only that you have the complete equipment that you need, but make certain that you are able to handle the job properly.
Prepare all the necessary materials and make sure to bring a good topic for conversation in order that your subject can relax while you're shooting.
6). Take as many photos as possible.
Do not be satisfied with limited amount of photos.

Thank you,
Amir
